ING Direct Lowering Interest Rate

It was bound to happen, ING's begun lowering their interest rate from 4.5% to 4.3%. That's still worlds better than a brick'n'mortar especially when combined with how kick-ass their other services are. I'll stick with them, for sure, but it's a sign of the times.

Do you remember opening a bank account as a kid and being amazed at the powers of compounding interest? Do you think that parents still do that with their kids today?

Tammy

Hi there! Wasn't sure how to contact you so I thought I'd post a comment on a finance post since my question is regarding finances.

I was on The Simple Dollar website (How to Balance Your Checkbook), and saw a comment you made a LONG time ago (Dec 2006 to be exact!). It was all about your Excel spreadsheet that you use to keep track of your budget and register at the same time. Is there any way I could somehow get a copy of that spreadsheet? I have one done up too, but it's just a budget tool, and I'd like to be able to integrate a register into it, so I'm only entering things once.

I've been using MS Money 2001 (I know, super old!), but it seems to have crapped out on me, so I'm looking into an alternative.

Anyway, I was thinking a fancier spreadsheet might just do the trick. It would be a lot faster too because I'd only be entering things once!

The one feature I like about Money is the ability to search for products (when did I purchase that fridge), or to run a quick report on how much I've spent on gas or phone bill for a certain calendar year or month, etc. Does your spreadsheet do any of those types of things?

Please let me know your thoughts
Thanks!

@Tammy: Sure thing. Check back in a few days and I'll post up a copy. It doesn't have any inter-month calculations available (I tried that, and it bogged Excel down too much), so ATM each month has its own .xlsx file.
