Coffee + (sort of) Science == Fun!

So, I ordered some petri dishes yesterday. The great amazon informs me that they should be here sometime towards the end of the week, leaving my last free weekend before school to be spent in pursuit of something I've long wondered about - just how long does it take coffee to grow shit.

Sure, I've performed accidental experiments in the subject before - but the resolution on these has usually been only as precise as a few weeks and my level of revulsion at the growth in my coffee cup. This time, however, I'm actually going to be paying attention to this! Granted, I has no microscope so this will only be based on macroscopic growth... but it will be interesting to me none-the-less.

What will I test? I believe that I will test;

  • At least three straight black brewed coffee
  • One plain tap water
  • One coffee w/ liquid creamer
  • One coffee w/ powdered creamer
  • One fancy coffee w/ liquid creamer and syrup
  • One unbrewed 50/50 mixture of coffee grounds and tapwater
  • Possibly some fresh-ground brewed black coffee as well

Sound like fun? I'm writing this now, because I'm interested in taking suggestions. If you have something (within reason) that you want me to put in these petri dishes - put it in the comments and I'll (probably) do it!
