From my BCIS exam; "The recent trend in less rich countries is to adopt free ____ software to avoid high costs.". Apparently it is incorrect to say "poor" now.

It has been "incorrect", just as Third World. Actually, I think the PC term is "developing countries". The reason is that they have negative connotations. Plus, "rich" and "poor" is a little ambiguous and subjective.
