Another Thing American Media Won't Touch

So... I finished watching .Hack: Twilight last night; and I'm officially obsessed. See, I talked awhile back about my love of Anime and certain trends that they have that aren't addressed by American media. Another trend that they address (that American media doesn't) is computing. Whether it's video games (.hack) or simple programming / hacking (Battle Programmer Shirasi)* - Anime covers it beautifully. The Japanese are not afraid to touch technology in a relevant and accurate manner. I love watching a show involving a programmer / hacker contracted by various entities to save them from evil hackers from America without flying numbers, pretty graphics and gross simplifications ala Hackers. American media is just... not interesting.

It's the same damned thing over and over and over and over again. Bah. Done ranting.

I am not a fan of the American Media generally. Spin, drama, and embellishing is how they report the news today. It makes me nuts. The reports on the war and all of the atrocities done by American troops being spun into the public eye is crazy. What they never talk about are the great things that Soldiers, Airmen, and Sailors do. I am a bit biased because I was one of them. Wow, I could go on forever, but I shouldn't.

Fox News; Fair and Balanced!

Seriously though, American news outlets are the scariest of them all. Mainstream entertainment media can be written off as just that; something to keep the ordinary people occupied with. The news outlets though... should be a source of fair, unspun and accurate information. None of this Photoshop'd copy-pasted smoke stuff.

A very close friend of mine once uttered the phrase; "I thought that we had one in Iraq". Everything in the room stopped. She had so utterly eaten up the media's representation of the war that she thought we were seriously finished over there.

I've numerous friends in the military, and a few who have seen service in Iraq - and I realize how much they go through and must deal with. A friend of mine related an ... operating behavior? ... that they could never accept any food or drink from the local peoples as they would frequently lace it with gasoline in order to kill the troops. Even the children would do this.

Anyway... ya. I could go on forever as well. Thank God there's the internet.

Btw Jesse, do you read the Wall Street Journal? As far as I've seen, it's proven to be a very good newspaper with relevant and relatively accurate stories that most other newspapers wouldn't touch.

I realize that I shouldn't have said "scariest of them all" like that. Surely China's is worse. :) I meant among all the other things that aren't right with America, the news outlets are among the scariest.

Jesse

I did read it in a previous life. I should sign back up, you are right.

You should get an office subscription. I hear businesses get deep discounts and it's a much better and enriching break read than the St. Cloud Times. Their tech coverage is actually pretty good too - which is rare in a print publication.
