What I Like About World of Warcraft
August 02, 2006
So, I thought about something today. I keep going back to World of Warcraft as my MMORPG of choice. I thought deeply on the subject and came back to one very clear reason. You see, I enjoy humor. I like Cartooney things. Give me a choice and I'll watch a random anime over any live-action television fare any day. My love of things that are caricatures is high. All of the other MMORPGs out there don't strive to be fun caricatures. They strive to be serious, dirty and hard ordeals filled with detail. I don't really like that. I love the fact that you can wander through the Undercity and see an undead zombie headbanging. It just makes it that much more fun. When I tune out, and want a break... I don't really want to enter a dark world of high fantasy and breath-taking realism online... I just want to have fun. WoW delivers.
Don't get me wrong though. My love of online FPS filled with detail is only surpassed by my suckage at them. I have some magic statistical ability that draws great players to the servers that I play on. I can rig those statistics if I play with physical people, but once I go online - the ethereal quality of the internet delivers the best players to stick their bullets in my head before I even buy my weapons. I mean, perhaps my infobahn pipes are clogged... but I think not.
